  TITLE: Assistant Community Director P/T

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

LOCATION: Cranbury, NJ

REASON FOR OPENING: Replacement

POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is accountable for coordinating and implementing cost-effective fundraising as well as supporting communication and program activities.  The position may be accountable for the above in an assigned geographic area or segment of the chapter or for specific events or programs without specific geographic territory.  More specifically, the Community Director position is accountable for coordinating a variety of fundraising events within the Division through volunteer committees including March for Babies; organizes, plans and implements existing events and develops new events.  The position will be accountable for the events and activities as assigned within the Central Jersey Division.  The Community Director acts as liaison between March of Dimes (MOD), its volunteers, and the local community in which it serves by recruiting volunteer participation, corporate participation, and sponsorship within that community.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recruit, orient, train, and monitor performance of volunteers to organize events that meet or exceed fundraising goals. 
  • Manage and provide leadership to volunteer committees on each event in assigned area to ensure that committee members are fully supported and accomplish tasks required for successful event. 
  • Provide leadership, training and support to event committees to ensure success.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community leaders and organizations to promote MOD message, build support for MOD mission, and maintain volunteer involvement in MOD activities and programs. 
  • Work with media to publicize mission/events, and secure local sponsorship for events to heighten public awareness and reach fundraising goals. 
  • Develop and implement events to recognize, reward, and motivate successful volunteers. 
  • Solicit sponsorship and manages sponsor relationships for events to achieve revenue goals.
  • Record and complete necessary paper work, and follow up for future events.
  • Maintain current, accurate and complete files on all events and activities assigned.  
  • Develop and manage event budgets.
  • With active committee support procures in-kind donations, prizes, plaques, awards, printing for the purpose of lowering fundraising costs.
  • Oversee logistics of events with committee to ensure event satisfaction for participants/guests.
  • Work with program staff and volunteers to ensure that every event contains program content to enhance the knowledge of the audience and general public regarding the March of Dimes mission, programs, special services and benefits for mothers and babies.
  • Communicate the mission of the March of Dimes.

 



QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent fundraising or community event experience
  • Good computer skills, especially Word and Excel 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, sales and marketing, volunteer management and development experience
  • Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks; strong organizational skills
  • Non-profit experience ideal
  • Valid drivers license and car
