TITLE: Community Voice Outreach Specialist
REPORTS TO: Community Voice Project Director
LOCATION: Memphis, TN
REASON FOR OPENING: Replacement
POSITION PURPOSE:
To implement, track, and document community based lay health trainings in Shelby County. Incumbent will identify and establish strong working relationships with urban community networks in an effort to conduct intensive community outreach to address infant mortality in African American communities.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the development of creative yet culturally and ethnically acceptable marketing strategies to promote community based lay health trainings
- Identify, schedule, and implement community based lay health education trainings specific to the “Taking it to the People” curriculum
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local community based businesses and agencies to serve as both training sites and/or recruitment sites
- Develop, plan, and organize lay health graduation programs and post grad action plan
- Serve as primary support person of assigned trained lay health advisors
- Work closely with CV manager to develop plans of retention
- Assist with data collection and compilation to be used for evaluation purposes
- Closely monitor, track, and maintain records of Lay Health Advisor’s outreach efforts
- Assist with program tracking to identify success of program operations
- Maintain working relationships with MOD staff and volunteers in state, regional, and national offices regarding program implementation as needed
- Complete reports for state, regional and national offices.
- Participate in MOD fundraising, media, and publicity efforts and events.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Community Health, Education, Social Work or related field with or an Associate’s Degree in the above discipline 2 – 3 years of experience required in curriculum implementation and/or community health; working with disadvantage population; program planning, development and implementation
- Previous history in case management, social work, or education in a lay health or similar setting is strongly preferred
- Experience in working with a wide variety of collaborative partners
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of urban based cultural issues, perinatal trends, community resources and other related strategies.
- Strong verbal and writing skills a must
- A dynamic, energetic, motivating individual who enjoys working, providing support to and collaborating with a diverse set of individuals, families, disciplines, and organizations.
